This week as the final classes of Wilton Cake Course 1 and 2. For the last class students were required to make a cake and decorate it with icing. Students also needed to apply what they learned in the classes. My motivation stemmed from learning new flower pipping and writing techniques. Course 1 showcased these techniques.
The second course focused more on advanced pipping and briefly touched on gum paste such as Roses, Daffodils, Pansies and violets. The mainstay of the course focused on royal icing applications and designs. Basket weaving was my favorite as it had a sophisticated yet elegant appearance. As a final project, students were required to ice the cake and do a theme. I chose the basket weave design with cascading flowers.
I have to say, these courses were worthwhile to participate in. While it may be time consuming in making and preparing cakes for each session, especially the last classes, the end results exceeded my expectations. The courses challenged each student’s artistic and creativity abilities to create aesthetically pleasing remarkable cakes. One step closer to achieving better pipping skills and decorations. If sore fingers and hands weren’t enough from pipping, the infectious laughter, smiles and encouragement made up for it. I could only surmise class 3 and 4 only gets better with every creation. Looking forward to making more cakes 🙂
